Jonathan Spike – Going Macro with Game Based Learning

Hello, and welcome to Episode 62 of the Planning Period Podcast, your #EdBreakroom. I’m your host, Brad Shreffler.

This week on the show I am joined by Jonathan Spike, former high school English teacher, and now college level instructional technology coach. He and I met at ISTE as he presented an Ignite session during the group I presented in, on gamifying education.

Jonathan and I talk about instructional technology at the university level, the differences between public school and university education, the need for students to struggle, and how they struggle at struggling, his Ignite presentation and what it was like to present, game-based learning, the fear we have in education of massive change, the benefits of de-emphasizing grades in class, and bringing the world outside of school into our classroom.

So, sit back and enjoy Episode 62 of the Planning Period Podcast, my interview with Jonathan Spike.

Jonathan, thank you so much for joining me on the podcast. And, thank you so much for the Minecraft project details, which I used with my students and it was a great experience.
